Dino Saluzzi’s first solo bandoneon album in more than 30 years finds the Argentine master musician in reflective mood, looking back across a richly creative life and forward to a new dawn ("Albores" means “daybreak”). The album begins with a farewell to composer Giya Kancheli (“Adios Maestro Kancheli”), and works its way towards memories of Dino’s father on “Don Caye – Variaciones sobre obra de Cayetano Saluzzi”. The solo recital, composed entirely of Saluzzi compositions, also offers prayers, evokes images of Buenos Aires in its golden age, alludes to the fictions of Borges and to the cultural wisdom of the ancestors. In brief, Albores is a classic ‘storytelling’ Dino Saluzzi album in the tradition established by "Kultrum" and "Andina". It is also, as annotator Luján Baudino observes, “an artistic manifesto of the bandoneon, exploring the full range of its expressive capacities.”
