In the history of hard rock and heavy metal, a number of curiosities happened, but in 1986 the world was clearly not yet ready for a metal musical. The bizarre mixture of heavy rock/NWOBHM and the Rocky Horror Picture Show is still unique today. No surprise then that „And God Gave Us Max“ has a small but very loyal fan base eagerly awaiting this first CD re-release. The anti-star and main character Max Gelt (played by Jeffrey Michelson) is supported by a whole armada of well-known musicians. This includes Kevin Riddles, of Angel Witch and (still current) Tytan fame, in addition to the almost complete band FM. Other contributors were acts like Samson, Paul Young, Eurythmics, John Cale, Spandau Ballet, Scorched Earth, Grand Prix, Tom Jones or Rhabstallion. The LP was produced by Will Reid Dick, known for his work for Motörhead, Lightning Raiders, Tytan, Thin Lizzy, Pendragon, Viva, Fastway, Thunderhead and Sinner. Similar to the film „Spinal Tap“, the music business and the (wannabe) rock star existence are ironized - sex, drugs, rock‘n‘roll and Placebo Viagra! The album, partly recorded live in the studio, is characterised by a fresh and at the same time heated atmosphere, which perfectly transports the fun of all participants to the listener. When the album was first released in 1986, the label Powerstation (Tokyo Blade, Alex Harvey, Chrome Molly) didn‘t cover itself with glory and let it disappear directly into oblivion. Thus, this extraordinary record had no chance and became an insider tip. So it‘s good that Golden Core is now honouring Max with a limited CD edition (300 copies). The material was restored and remastered by Neudi (Manilla Road, Trance) in 2016 and 2021.
