2011 BROADCAST RECORDING FROM THE FIRST TIME THE BIG 4 PLAYED ON THE SAME STAGE IN SWEDEN. Formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, drummer Dave Lombardo, and bassist / vocalist Tom Araya, Slayer‘s fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the founding “big four” bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Slayer released twelve studio albums, two live albums, a box set, six music videos, two EOs and a covers album. Four of the band’s studio albums have received gold certification in the United States. The band has received five Grammy Award nominations, winning one in 2007 for the song ‘Eyes Of The Insane’ and one in 2008 for the song ‘Final Six’. In January 2018, Slayer announced their farewell world tour, which began with a North American trek in May and June, followed in November and December by a European tour with Lamb of God, Anthrax and Obituary. The farewell tour continued into 2019, with plans to visit places such as South America, Australia and Japan; in addition to European festivals such as Hellfest and Graspop, the band toured the United States again in May 2019. In 2010 and 2011, Slayer, alongside their big 4 colleagues, played a series of events billed as the Big 4 Festivals, initially across Europe in 2010, then in 2011 a couple of dates in the USA, plus more European shows. On 3rd July 2011, they all performed in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the city’s famed Ullevi Stadium, and Slayer’s performance that day was hailed as the finest set of the festival. The whole affair was also broadcast on TV by Swedish public television broadcaster Sveriges. This new CD features in full Slayer’s superb show on that dynamic and electric day, the first time the BIG 4 had ever shared a stage together in Sweden.
