World premiere recordings in this programme include the transcriptions of Glinka’s Chernomor’s March from Ruslan and Lyudmila, Chopin’s Scherzo No. 2, Op 31, and the only surviving example of the additions Balakirev made during performance, as well as the Polonaise brillante – Balakirev’s earliest surviving piano work.
