Taika Waititi writes, directs and stars in this New Zealand comedy drama. Set in 1984, the film follows the eponymous eleven-year-old Boy (James Rolleston), a Michael Jackson fanatic, who lives on a farm with his gran and little brother Rocky (Te Aho Eketone-Whitu) and spends his days dreaming of his heroic absent father and Michael Jackson. But one day his father Alamein (Waititi) suddenly reappears, eager to find a bag of money he buried before his arrest. Will his father live up to Boy'S lofty expectations?
