By the mid-Seventies, Sonia Pottinger was firmly established as one of Jamaica's premier producers, issuing a steady stream of best-selling 7" singles on her revered High Note label. Throughout the remainder of the decade, she further cemented her reputation as a leading player within the island's recording industry with a succession of superior releases, performed by some of the leading talents on the Jamaican music scene, with the bulk of this work recorded at Duke Reid's famed Treasure Isle studio, under the supervision of the facility's acclaimed in-house sound engineer, Errol Brown. Yet, despite the popularity of these sides, many have remained unavailable since their original release over four decades ago. Now, at long last, 35 of Pottinger's finest works from the mid-to-late Seventies have been brought together to form this essential roots reggae collection. Showcasing the talents of many of Jamaica's finest vocalists, DJs and instrumentalists, "Can't Stop The Dread" almost entirely comprises tracks new to CD; their number including eight previously unissued recordings.
