Cat's Eye/Silver Bullet/Maximum Overdrive (UK-import)
Three horror films based on stories by acclaimed author, Stephen King. 'Cat's Eye' (1985) comprises three short stories, linked together by the wanderings of a stray cat. The first sees a chain smoker (James Woods) taking drastic steps to kick the habit, while the second features a mobster gaining revenge on his wife's lover, and the third has the cat taking centre stage, pitting its wits against an evil goblin. 'Silver Bullet' (1985) is set in Smalltown, USA. All is peaceful, all is calm, or at least it is until a series of gruesome murders take place. The townspeople gather together to suggest various solutions and decide to send out a search party to track down the murderer. But when the search party is massacred, it seems that the only hope for the town might be a young handicapped boy and his sister, both of whom are convinced that the killings are the work of a werewolf. 'Maximum Overdrive' (1986) concerns a comet which, when it passes too close to the Earth, causes all things mechanical to develop a life of their own. As the machines leave behind a trail of destruction, a few human survivors trapped in a diner decide that they have to take positive action to destroy their formidable foe.
