Dick's Picks Vol. 31 - Philadelphia & Jersey (4th~6th Aug, 1974)
Perhaps the best document of the legendary Wall of Sound tour, which featured the massive sound system designed by Owsley "Bear" Stanley that delivered a crystal-clear sound that to this day stirs controversy among Dead fans. The clarity of their live sound certainly spurred the Dead to make yet another stylistic leap, this time away from the country-rock of Workingman's Dead towards a jazz fusion sound best exemplified by the two epic versions of "Playing in the Band" found here. The HDCD format that displays the Wall of Sound in all of its uncanny sonic precision. First time at music retail!
