Garcia Peoples formed in Rutherford, New Jersey by high school friends Tom Malach and Danny Arakaki. Frequent performances in New York City helped build their reputation and sharpen their powerhouse live show, drawing equally from the ethos of Pavement and various “jam” bands (be it The Allmans or Amon Düül). Four albums followed on the Beyond Beyond is Beyond label, most recently Nightcap at Wit’s End (2020) with David Fricke-penned liner notes in which he mused “I am tempted to say this is the bands best record, except Garcia Peoples are too restless to settle for plateaus.” And to that point a new peak emerges with Dodging Dues – languid and dreamy one moment, surging and intense the next. It’s comprised of seven songs recorded at Strange Weather in Brooklyn with Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Superwolves, Endless Boogie) producing.
