Don Carlos is betrothed to Elisabeth, but then his father intercedes and marries her himself. Heartbroken, Carlos enters a monastery; his friend Rodrigue tries to rally his spirits by convincing him to help free Protestant Flanders from Catholic Spain; but Carlos' love for Elisabeth continues. A new adaptation of one of Verdi's most popular operas, restored to its original five acts and performed at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
