Biographical overview of the life, background and works of Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961). Hemingway was born in Chicago and went on to spent some time as a newspaper reporter, before serving in the war in Italy. After his first novel was published in 1926, Hemingway became well known as a writer and received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.
