Fires On The Plain (UK-import)
Shin'ya Tsukamoto writes, directs and stars in this Japanese war drama. In the final days of the Second World War, Japanese soldiers are occupying the Philippines where they are slowly losing their battle and being pushed back by guerrilla resistance fighters and the might of the American army. After contracting TB, Private Tamura (Tsukamoto) is hospitalised on a remote island as his fellow troops prepare to retreat. However, he is soon deemed not sick enough for the hospital and, as the enemy approaches, he is forced to move from one place to another. Will he survive the treacherous island as it descends into further madness and horror?
