Drawing directly from contemporary sources, 'Flight Gear' presents the uniforms and flying equipment used by American pilots on the Western theatre of war from August 1942, with beginning of Allied bombing of France, to May 1945 and the end of the War. The hundreds of archive photographs and objects contained in this book demonstrate the many developments which occurred during this period, showing how British and American equipment was often combined, how it was adapted to changing circumstances, and how technical advances continued right up to the end of the War. The book concludes with profiles of the pilots who played their part in the liberation of Europe.
