Freddie King - Guitar Signature Licks
The most virtuosic blues King, big bad Freddie was a spectacular guitarist as well as a first-rate singer and accomplished songwriter. As a transplanted Texan who moved to Chicago in the '50s, Freddie rubbed shoulders with the likes of Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Magic Sam. When he started churning out instrumental and vocal hits for the Cincinatti-based King Records in the early sixties, his music combined the soul of Chicago blues with the swinging drive of Texas shuffles. By the seventies he had been discovered by the rock audience, and luminaries like Leon Russell and Eric Clapton clamored to produce him and play with him. Freddie's vast repertoire of blues classics offers cool hooks, hot solos, and foot-tapping rhythms for the contemporary electric guitarist. Nearly every blues band and quite a few rock bands have always included at least one of his signature songs, be it "Hideaway" or "Have You Ever Loved a Woman", in their set lists. His legacy as the epitome of the hip Texas guitar slinger lives on in the licks of the greatest guitar players today.
