Pierre-Yves Borgeaud's documentary follows the renowned Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil as he embarks on a journey around the southern hemisphere to promote cultural diversity. Starting his sojourn in his home state of Bahia, the former Brazilian Minister of Culture first travels to Australia, where ex-Midnight Oil singer Peter Garrett, now Minister for School Education, demonstrates how music and art are helping Aborigines to bridge racial divides. It's then on to South Africa, where he joins with Johannesburg's multi-racial MIAGI Youth Orchestra to explore how musical genres can come together and meets some of the local artists, including Vusi Mahlasela, to talk about the challenges of reconciliation. Finally, Gil returns to Brazil to highlight the struggles of the Amazon region's indigenous tribes and the fight to protect their threatened culture.
