Guns N' Roses - Collectors Box
This collector's box set features never-before-released performance and interview material with the band. The set contains the following. AXL ROSE- THE PRETTIEST STAR: Exploding onto the LA glam-rock scene in the 1980s, Guns N' Roses presented a spectacle unlike any most had ever seen, with a streetwise attitude and highly controversial lyrics. Axl Rose was the ferocious front man of this carnival of raw mayhem, as his confusion and anger struck a chord with a generation. This documentary traces Axl's fraught path to glory and back, from his early days in Lafayette, Indiana, detailing the neglect and deprivation of his youth and his escape through music. Through previously-unseen footage and interviews, the film continues through to Axl's eagerly-anticipated CHINESE DEMOCRACY album. Interviews feature insights from guitarist Chris Weber, former manager Vicky Hamilton, Skip Sailor, Robert John, and more. GUNS N' ROSES - SEX N' DRUGS N' ROCK N' ROLL: Guns N' Roses have a well-earned bad-boy reputation, and a predilection for explosive melodies and lyrics. These aspects of the band are explored in this candid and unauthorized documentary. 942518 This collection has plenty of Harry Nilsson gems, including his definitive covers of Badfinger's "Without You" and Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'," as well as Nilsson's own version of "One," a huge hit for Three Dog Night, but it lacks some obvious tracks, as well, including "Coconut," "Cuddly Toy" (a key album track for the Monkees), the fascinatingly realized "1941," the infectious and cartoon-like "Me and My Arrow," and his hit dance single "Jump into the Fire," so it doesn't make the best introduction to this unique artist, although there's still plenty here to convince anyone that Nilsson was truly gifted and definitely one of a kind. ~ Steve Leggett
