Happy Ever After (UK-import)
The Irish villagers of Rathbarney are saddened to hear about the untimely passing of one of their most prominent townsfolk, only to see him come back to haunt them in this black comedy. When General O'Leary (A. E. Matthews) is killed on a hunting expedition, his young bureaucratic nephew Jasper (David Niven) arrives to take over his affairs. However, when he turns his uncle's legacy on its head by charging the townsfolk arrears on their rent payments and refusing to pay his outstanding gambling debts, he becomes village enemy number one. The villagers decide to scare him out of the land by staging a fake haunting, and accidentally catch him in the act of trying to burn the estate to the ground in order to claim insurance. Eventually, the village lawyer and priest team together to come up with a plan which they hope will lead to their unfortunate new resident's speedy departure.
