'Heavier Things' is John Mayer's second studio album, originally released in 2003 and the last one that features his characteristic laidback acoustic rock. After 'Heavier Things' his music gradually transformed into a more bluesy style. 'Heavier Things' features his hits 'Clarity' and 'Daughters'. Although the last one is one of his biggest hits, Mayer has always been resistant on releasing this song as a single because at that time his music was turning into another direction. He was still skeptical even when he won a Grammy for it, which he mentioned in his speech upon receiving the award. However, his label decided that 'Daughters' should be chosen over other candidates because it would be more well-received by radio. Given its success not a very silly idea.
