This romantic action adventure, a tribute to the oilfield fire-fighting legend 'Red' Adair, stars John Wayne as Chance Buckman, a colourful Texan who tames out-of-control oil fires in exotic locations around the world. Between blazes he carries the torch for the wife (Vera Miles) who left him 20 years earlier... Meanwhile his colleague Greg Parker (Jim Hutton) is seeing his daughter, Tish (Katharine Ross).
