What's in the Book
DaVinci Resolve 17 is a professional high-performance video editing system that comes with a well-known learning curve, a quirky user interface, and demanding hardware requirements. For first-time or casual users, learning DaVinci Resolve 17 can be quite a challenge.
Getting Started with DaVinci Resolve 17 takes you step by step from importing media, to editing video and audio, adding transitions and effects, to uploading your finished video to social media channels. And once you have the basics firmly under your belt, the book will show you how to use sophisticated visual effects such as green screen, object tracking and removal, grading shots, fixing bad audio tracks-and dozens more video production essentials. The book covers everything you need to know to create professional-looking videos from start to finish using DaVinci Resolve.
In Exercise Uno you'll shoot and edit a straightforward 'talking head' video, typical of what you might find on YouTube. Nothing could be simpler. But in doing so you'll learn how to import media, how the Media, Edit, Color, and Deliver pages work, creating and copying grade Nodes, basic color correction, navigating the Timeline, using text and titles, setting audio levels and EQ, as well as encoding for YouTube, Vimeo, and other social media platforms. In just this one exercise you'll step through the entire gamut of video production from end-to-end, because you need to know all these things even if you are just making a straightforward YouTube video.
For Exercise Due, you'll shoot a Chroma Key video (green screen) and composite it with a background plate. You'll learn the basics of grading and creating garbage mattes and compound clips.
Exercise Tre teaches common editing tools and techniques as well as effects often used in YouTube videos and by WordPress vloggers. Specifically, this exercise will give you some experience grading footage and improving the look of your videos with effects such as Beauty and Face Refinement using Power Windows, Qualifier, and Tracker. Once you know how to operate these essential tools, you'll have no trouble applying hundreds of DaVinci Resolve effects.
Exercise Quattro covers object tracking, blurring, and removal, ducking audio, and a few other tools like Object Removal and Patch Replacer. There are also exercises using smartphone video, making and using stills, as well as creating thumbnails for YouTube.
Getting Started with DaVinci Resolve 17 includes chapters on basic video and audio production that will make creating your projects faster and easier and your results more professional.
