Australian coming-of-age drama in which schoolboy Charlie Bucktin (Levi Miller) is awakened in the middle of the night by local mixed-race boy Jasper Jones (Aaron L. McGrath), to hear that he urgently needs Charlie's help. He follows Jasper into the woods, and is horrified to discover the dead body of a local girl. At first Charlie worries that Jasper has committed an atrocious murder, before revealing that Jasper had discovered the body and is too afraid to go to the police under threat of being wrongfully convicted, especially due to his race and background. What ensues is a journey of uncovering the town's deepest secrets and pursuing unlikely potential killers to identify the true culprit of the heinous crime, ensuring Jasper's freedom and justice at last for the young girl's family.
