With South Africa now fully integrated into the activities of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it is fitting for a book such as South Africa at the Olympic Games detailing our involvement with the Olympic Movement over the years, to see the light. Lappe Laubscher and Wessel Oosthuizen give the sports enthusiast an easy to read history of what has been our involvement over the years. To appreciate the work that the authors have put in, one only has to look at what they were able to dig out of the archives. We can only understand the magnitude of what the Olympic Movement is all about when we read about its many programmes that go beyond sport. This book may be the beginning of documenting what South Africans have experienced since the country's return to that big family of the IOC.
