Live Under The Sky... '83
Over a decade after Miles Davis' interest in acoustic jazz was snuffed out, his musical disciples, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and Ron Carter seemed happy to keep the flames alight. In 1983 with VSOP II they joined forces with Wynton and Branford Marsalis, young lions with formidable technique and an aversion to electricity. The resulting ensemble takes off and flies with the Marsalis brothers staking their claims to jazz's top table. The music draws on Wynton's 1982 debut LP, two classic Herbie Hancock compositions and a popular Japanese song from the 1950s, performed at NHK Hall Tokyo, Japan on May 19th, 1983 and broadcast on NHK radio.
