Luciano Pavarotti - Gala Concert
This is the video of the historic concert Luciano Pavarotti gave at the magnificent Olympia Hall in Munich, West Germany. The World's greatest tenor thrills the audience by singing many of his greatest arias and songs including his famous interpretation of "Vesti la giubba" as well as his popular favorite "Mamma". Pavarotti responds to the encore calls by singing such favorites as "O sole mio" and "Torno a Sorrento". Since his debut in 1961 Luciano Pavarotti has been in constant demand in opera houses and recital halls around the world. He made his U.S. debut in Miami during the 1965 season as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor opposite Joan Sutherland. Pavarotti toured Australia with Dame Joan and then went on to Europe, making his premiere performances at La Scala, Covent Garden and in Rome. He bowed as Rodolfo at the Metropolitan Opera House In 1968, and has returned to the Met nearly every season since, singing over 170 performances of 16 roles. As one of The Three Tenors, Pavarotti has established himself as a favorite of audiences around the world.
