American drama in which a 90-year-old atheist US Navy veteran is forced to change his perceptions of his life's purpose. Having lived mostly alone and without a surviving family to seek company from, Lucky (Harry Dean Stanton) relies heavily on the daily run-ins with the neighbours, bartender and doctor with whom he shares the small town in the desert. When Lucky collapses at home, he realises that he can no longer ignore his ailing body and must accept at last that he is now in his old age. Despite this, Lucky continues to smoke cigarettes and spends his days walking around the town, while contemplating what lies ahead for him and whether there really is something greater out there.
