Matangi/Maya/M.I.A. (UK-import)
American-British biographical documentary centred on the life and career of British musician Mathangi 'Maya' Arulpragasam aka M.I.A.. Having had a turbulent start to life growing up in a civil war-torn Sri Lanka, M.I.A. relocated back to her birthplace of London while still in her childhood with her siblings and mother. Her father, political activist Arul Pragasam, remained in Sri Lanka to continue his work as a mediator for both sides of the civil war. Living in London, M.I.A. quickly adopted the English language and went on to study art and film, before launching her music career as a means to convey her political and social beliefs to the masses.
