South African drama focusing on a young gay soldier coming to terms with his sexuality, co-written and directed by Oliver Hermanus. In 1981, 18-year-old Nicholas Van der Swart (Kai Luke Brummer) is conscripted into the South African Defence Force and sent to fight in their ongoing border war with communist Angola. As he undergoes basic training, led by the callous Sergeant Brand (Hilton Pelser), Nicholas must adapt to life in the barracks as he strikes up a relationship with fellow conscript Dylan Stassen (Ryan de Villiers).
