French biographical drama directed by Jacques Becker. The film follows Amedeo Modigliani (Gerard Philipe), a poor Italian artist based in Paris who falls in love with a girl from a wealthy family. Things soon become complicated for the couple when the girl's disapproving family cut them off, a move which leaves them living in poverty.
