"Frederik Villmow was born in 1993 in Cologne, Germany. Born into a musical family, he started playing the drums already at the age of 3. He has a master degree from the prestigious `Jazzlinja NTNU in Trondheim´, and currently lives in Oslo, Norway. Frederik Villmow has worked with a wide variety of musicians and ensembles such as Tomas Franck (DK), Carl Winther (DK), Vigleik Storaas (NO), John Pål Inderberg (NO), Bjørn Marius Hegge (NO), Bjørn Alterhaug (NO), Erling Aksdal (NO), Kåre Kolve (NO), Alan Skidmore (UK), Jerry Lu (GER), Marc Doffey (GER), Bendik Hofseth (NO), Tore Brunborg (NO), Cappella Amsterdam (NL), Mats Holmquist Big Band (SWE), Metropole Orkest Academy conducted by Vince Mendoza (NL), and Gabriel Pérez´ SoundTrip Orchestra featuring Chris Potter (ARG/GER/USA). He has been touring through Europe with his own projects; Frederik Villmow Quartet, Line Up featuring John Pål Inderberg and the trio Doffey/Haugland/Villmow featuring Berlin-based saxophonist Marc Doffey and Norwegian bassist Julian Haugland. In 2019 he released his debut album as a leader, entitled `Frederik Villmow Quartet feat. Tomas Franck - Live in Copenhagen´ (AMP Music & Records) which has been praised by the international jazz press for its high energy and great virtuosity. This recording featured two of Denmarks leading jazz musicians; pianist Carl Winther (Jerry Bergonzi Quartet, Tim Hagans Quartet, Walt Weiskopf European Quartet,…) and saxophonist Tomas Franck (Danish Radio Big Band, Ed Thigpen Scantet, Jens Winther/Al Foster Quintet,…). Live in Copenhagen was selected as Best Newcomer of the year 2019 by jazz journalist Hank Msiao (Taiwan) and received great response from the International press as Japan Jazz Magazine, Jazz Life Japan, Jazzthing Germany, JazzDK, and UK Vibe. Frederik Villmow is endorsed by CANOPUS drums. The music on this release, Motion, was specifically composed for this trio and the musicians on this recording. The idea was to choose some of our favorite standards and to play some originals which would create certain atmospheres and at the same time leave enough space for the individuals in this trio."
