A newly planned road that will cross the northern sector of the Serengeti National Park has stirred both national and international protests, causing intense discussions on internet, in newspapers and scientific literature. The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) therefore presented a comprehensive study of subsequent consequences of the construction of such a road with concern to biodiversity, human and animal health, as well as the social structures of the communities living close to the planned road. In this book we discuss most of the consequences this upgraded road will have on human social life and the environment. The wonderful wild life of the Serengeti National Park, as well as the fascinating local cultures and peoples and the meetings of these two, are here shown in stunningly beautiful photos in this superbly designed book.
