Rock Hudson and Anne Baxter star in this drama directed by Jerry Hopper. Clint Saunders (Hudson) is a dealer in the local casino and with his girlfriend Tacey (Baxter) becoming rapidly addicted to gambling, the couple decide to change their ways. As they pack up and move to a new town, taking with them Hudson's brother Nugget (Curtis), they come across a young orphan girl Seely (Natalie Wood) and decide to take her in as well. When Clint gets a new job in the town's bank, rival banker Kenneth Watrous (Carl Benton Reid) unleashes his secret weapon to try to eradicate the competition. As Kenneth's daughter Judith (Julie Adams) works her powers of seduction on the unsuspecting Clint, she soon reveals the lengths she is prepared to go to to ensure her father gets his way.
