Slitasje fra selve avspillingen, og fra støv og skitt på platene vil etter hvert gå ut over sporingsevnen og dermed lydkvaliteten. En ny stift gjør pickupen god som ny igjen. Denne kan også brukes som erstatningsstift til Ortofon 2M Red og 2M Silver, da disse har identiske pickup-hus. Since silver is a better conductor than copper, it provides higher accuracy of sound transmission, therefore 2M Silver is an upgrade compared to 2M Red.  - 2M Blue is an upgrade compared to both 2M Red and 2M Silver thanks to Nude Elliptical diamond which retrieves information from the groove with a higher accuracy.
