Promise Broken Promise (UK-import)
Drama, based on a true story, following the fate of a Jewish boy in the unstable climate of Slovakia during World War II. Martin Friedmann (Samuel Spisák) enjoys a fairly ordinary and happy childhood until the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1938 leads to the creation of a new nation, Slovakia, and a dramatic increase in anti-Semitism. From being idolised by the community for his prodigious talents as a soccer player, Martin quickly becomes an object of suspicion and is ultimately forced to flee the town lest he is sent to Poland's horrific concentration camps like other members of his family. As the boy is forced to adapt to try and survive he is confronted directly with humanity's incredible capacity for generosity and cruelty, as some sacrifice everything to try and save him from those determined to destroy him.
