Though he was known primarily as a symphonist, and despite his large portfolio of piano works, Raff’s first love was the violin, and this release features Violin Sonatas Nos. 1 and 2. Vol. 2 will be on 8.573842 and will feature Violin Sonatas Nos. 3, 4 and 5. Violinist Laurence Kayalen has previously recorded critically acclaimed discs for Naxos.
