1970s adventure comedy adapted for the screen by George MacDonald Fraser from his second novel following cowardly antihero Harry Flashman, here portrayed by Malcolm McDowell. Trying to find his way into the high society of 19th-century Europe, Captain Flashman is persuaded to pose as a Prussian nobleman and wed Duchess Irma (Britt Ekland) by Otto von Bismarck (Oliver Reed) and Rudi von Sternberg (Alan Bates), who are seeking to advance their political careers. However, Flashman's disguise is discovered and he goes on the run, encountering a number of catastrophes on the way.
