From 1846 and onwards many people from Bykle municipality in Setesdal emigrated from their poor conditions to the land of opportunities, America. Halvor Mikkelson Holen (1880- 1968), a younger brother of my grandfather, emigrated in 1900 when he was 20 years old. After 19 years in Minnesota he went back to Norway to find a wife, and he succeeded. In 1920 he went back to his farm in Goodridge, Pennington County, Minnesota together with his wife, Gyro from Valle. They had five children and now have a larger number of descendants. After requests from some of my relatives in Minnesota I have written a saga about our common ancestors. It became a tale about seven generations.
