Double feature starring Basil Rathbone as detective Sherlock Holmes. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the Spider Woman (1944), a strange female villain is discovered to be behind a series of deaths wherein the victims are driven to suicide after being bitten by poisonous spiders, Holmes finds it easier to move around undetected. But Spedding may be a true match for him... The film climaxes with the famous scene of Holmes tied up and gagged behind a target in a shooting gallery, with Watson aiming a loaded pistol at it. In 'Sherlock Holmes and the Pearl of Death (1944), the famous Borgia pearl is stolen from a courier aboard a channel ferry, and the thief enlists the help of a clergyman to smuggle the gem through customs. Naturally, the clergyman turns out to be Holmes in disguise, and he returns the pearl to its rightful owner. However, it is promptly stolen again by the arch criminal Giles Conover (Miles Mander). Holmes must retrieve the pearl yet again - but first he has to overcome Conover's formidable associate, 'The Creeper'.
