THE APE (BORIS KARLOFF): THE APE brings together two legends of horror, FRANKENSTEIN star Boris Karloff and THE WOLF MAN writer Curt Siodmak. Karloff stars as Dr. Adrian, a man who becomes obsessed with curing paralysis when he loses his beloved wife and daughter to the disease. Desperately trying to cure a crippled neighbor (Maris Wrixon), he discovers that he needs human spinal fluid for his vaccine - but how to get it? When an ape trainer at a local circus is badly mauled, the doctor allows him to die so that he can tap his spine. The gorilla escapes and goes on a killing spree terrorizing the small town. A cult horror classic, THE APE was Karloff's final film for Monogram. BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA (BELA LUGOSI): Comedians Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo encounter mad scientist Dr. Zabor on a South Pacific island. The doctor is maniacally jealous of anyone who expresses an interest in the beautiful native princess, Nona. When Duke and the princess fall in love, Zabor subjects the comic to his fiendish experiments and turns him into a singing gorilla. As the newly transformed ape runs wild on the island, Sammy must find a way to remain human himself while searching for a way to restore his partner to normal. Bela Lugosi seems to enjoy sending up his screen image and Petrillo's imitation of Jerry Lewis is flawless. THE GORILLA (BELA LUGOSI): A maniac known as "The Gorilla" is terrorizing the community and his next target is wealthy insurance broker Walter Stevens (Lionel Atwill). Hired to investigate the menace are the bumbling gumshoes Harrigan, Mulligan and Garrity (the Ritz Brothers) who stumble through Stevens' mansion in a hysterically clueless stupor. Bela Lugosi (as the sinister butler) and Lionel Atwill are priceless in spoofing their own screen personae in this suspenseful, comedy-filled old house thriller. THE APE MAN (BELA LUGOSI): While engaged in a bizarre evolutionary experiment, scientist Jonathan Brewster (Bela Lugosi) is transformed into a hideous ape creature. Desperate to reverse the process, Brewster must acquire human spinal fluid. With his murderous gorilla henchman in tow, the pair sets out on a killing spree in an effort to affect a cure. Living up to his reputation for economical directing methods, director William Beaudine delivers a classic of the horror genre with often surreal comic overtones. The mysteriously psychotic Lugosi character combined with the "special effects" that only a costumed gorilla can deliver, make for a thoroughly entertaining hour of oddly seductive cinema. BRIDE OF THE GORILLA (LON CHANEY): Overcome with passion and desire for the beautiful and sultry Dina Van Gelder (Barbara Payton), plantation manager Chavez (Raymond Burr) is driven to murder her husband. Having spurned one of the locals for the sensual blond, he becomes the victim of a curse by a voodoo priestess. "He shall be like an animal," she proclaims, thereafter transforming him into a gorilla whenever he enters the...
