This Virginia band of brothers recorded SUN ON SUN in a log cabin in Charlottesville over just four days. The efficiency is impressive but understandable--the only real special effects on the record are assured musicianship, thick riffs, and a lot of heart. Like a less repetitive Dead Meadow, Pontiak knows how to churn through a slow-burner with verve and wit. Jennings Carney's skuzzy bass anchors the droning "Shell Skull," while guitarist/vocalist Van moves "White Hands" from frantic guitar freakout to a slanted singalong in the vein of early Silkworm.
