Claude Chabrol directs this adaptation of the novel by Ruth Rendell. Philippe (Benoit Magimel), a salesman, lives with his mother and two sisters in the suburbs of Nantes. When he meets bridesmaid Senta (Laura Smet) at his sister's wedding, they begin a passionate and intense relationship. Senta soon proves to be very demanding however, when she claims that Philippe should prove his love to her by killing someone. Philippe pretends that he is responsible for the death of a local tramp, but when Senta promises to prove her love in the same way, and when another body is discovered, he soon begins to wonder exactly what kind of woman he is involved with.
