Musical drama about two brothers who leave Havana for New York in the 1950s. Hoping to break into the growing Latin music scene, the pair try to make a living playing Cuban dance songs in their new city. Despite their modest success the brothers bring trouble on themselves when they each begin affairs. Nestor (Antonio Banderas) cannot seem to forget about the girl he left behind in Cuba while Cesar (Armand Assante) secretly covets his sibling's new girlfriend, putting a strain on the brothers' relationship which no level of success can erase.
