After many years of waiting, the National Museum will open its doors to the Nordic region's largest art museum in Oslo in summer 2022. Old and modern art, contemporary art, architecture, design and decorative art will then have a new home. This book provides a glimpse of how a museum thinks and operates today, how and why one collects, conserves and displays all these works and ideas. The book contains meetings with artists and various specialists from the museum. In particular, the book takes a new look at the enormous collection the National Museum is responsible for, including well-known masterpieces, new additions or works that have been stored away for far too long. The editor and main writer of the book is Audun Vinger. It also contains texts by Vigdis Hjorth, Lars Mørch Finborud, Bjørn Hatterud and Anja Lauvdal. The book contains more than 200 illustrations. Translation by John Irons. Publishing Editor is Inger Schjoldager. Graphic design by Steffen Kørner.
