The Rainmaker (1956) / Regnmakeren
Burt Lancaster stars as Bill Starbuck, a charismatic con man in the Depression-era Midwest, who breezes into a drought-stricken Kansas town claiming he can bring the rain. But Starbuck winds up transforming it-and local spinster Lizzie Curry (Katharine Hepburn)-more with his audacity and idealism than from any unproved weather-changing powers. Wendell Corey, Earl Holliman, and Lloyd Bridges co-star; Broadway director Joseph Anthony helmed N. Richard Nash's adaptation of his play.
