Collection of six operas performed by the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Chorus in Covent Garden, London, between 1992 and 1994. Edward Downes conducts productions of Verdi's 'Stiffelio' (1993), starring José Carreras in the lead role, and 'Aida' (1994) featuring Cheryl Studer as the titular tragic slave girl. Downes also conducts Richard Strauss's 'Salome' (1992) with Maria Ewing in the title role alongside Michael Devlin and Kenneth Riegel. Sir Georg Solti leads the orchestra and chorus in Verdi's 'Otello' (1992) which includes the performing talents of Plácido Domingo as the doomed title character and Sergei Leiferkus as his adversary Iago. Gounod's 'Romeo et Juliette' (1994) stars Roberto Alagna and Leontina Vaduva in the leading roles with the production led by conductor Charles Mackerras. Finally, Mozart's 'Mitridate, re di Ponto', recorded in 1993, is conducted by Paul Daniel and includes performances by Bruce Ford, Jochen Kowalski and Ann Murray.
