Brazilian poet, lyricist, essayist and playwright, Vinícius de Moraes (1913-1980) became a seminal fi gure in modern Brazilian music and literature. He penned hundreds of songs with his longtime collaborator, António Carlos Jobim (1927- 1994). Their compositions became true classics and have transcended the bossa nova genre, as they continue to be played and recorded by countless musicians throughout the world. This CD compiles some of his most celebrated songs performed by many of the stars of the genre, among them Vinícius himself, João Gilberto, Luiz Bonfá, Sylvia Telles, and Elizete Cardoso.
