Angela Bassett directs this biographical drama starring Yaya DaCosta as legendary singer Whitney Houston. After becoming a worldwide star on the back of two successful albums, Whitney attends the 1989 Soul Train Awards with her friend Robyn (Yolonda Ross) and meets R&B; singer Bobby Brown (Arlen Escarpeta). The pair soon become close and begin seeing each other. However, it emerges that Bobby already has a girlfriend and has recently had a child, a revelation that leaves Whitney devastated. Despite their troubles, the couple persevere with their relationship, but despite their careers going from strength to strength, cracks soon start to appear as they both struggle with the pressures of fame, personal tragedy and Whitney's increasing reliance on drugs.
